Sculptra (poly-L lactic acid) is a revolutionary injectable filler that offers long-lasting results for smoothing deep facial wrinkles around the mouth and on the cheeks. This product works gradually to contribute to a more youthful appearance, giving the face back its volume, smoothing deep wrinkles, and stimulating natural collagen production for results that endure.

Its restorative properties give back some of the skin’s collagen that has been lost due to the aging process. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra is injected under the skin, not into it.

Like any injection-based procedure, treatment with Sculptra will cause some pain. Additional side effects from the product, like tenderness, bruising, swelling, redness, bleeding, or itching may also occur during and after treatment.

Treatment with injectables like Sculptra doesn’t take long. Many patients can be in and out of the office in an hour, and the procedure itself may take only about 20 minutes, depending on your specific regimen.

Sculptra is not an instant-results injectable like dermal fillers. It may take several weeks or months for the full volume-restoring and smoothing effects of Sculptra to be noticeable.

Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra can last up to two years. The restorative effects on the skin’s own will endure beyond that point. Sculptra is a long-lasting treatment.

Sculptra restores facial volume and smooths wrinkles, but there are many skin concerns it won’t address. If you’re dealing with skin texture issues, a chemical peel or custom facial can address your needs. If you’re noticing that your deepest lines are related to your expressions, especially on the forehead, Botox or Dysport might be an additional treatment to consider to relax the muscles that cause those lines to crop up. If you desire more volume in your lips or more pronounced results in your cheeks, you should consider a dermal filler like Juvéderm or Restylane.
